FAVORITE SPRING 2012 TRENDS

Looking at the Spring 2012 runways, I chose my favorite Ready-to-Wear & Accessory trends for the season. Designers are looking to brighten the grim economic atmosphere with the use of colors and fun prints. Accessories this year are more androgynous - the use of metals, precious gems, and leather materials have been very common. "Less is more" is my own personal fashion statement - mix and matching classics with other more eclectic & fun pieces will be a great approach to finding the right look for the Spring 2012 season.

Dame Vivienne Westwood Pledges £1 Million to Tackle Climate Change

After voicing frustration over the World Bank’s failure to distribute funds earmarked for climate change, Westwood announced she was giving £1 million ($1.55 million) of her own cash to prevent logging in the rainforests of Borneo, the Congo Basin, and Peru. Speaking on the eve of United Nations climate talks in South Africa on Monday, the designer criticized World Bank officials for sitting on the £4.2 billion ($6.5 billion) Climate Investment Funds, which was established in 2008 to help developing countries confront the effects of global warming by 2012.

Dame Vivienne Westwood asked the public to “donate a fiver” to charities such as Cool Earth rather than wait for our governments to reach an accord.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD x SIGG

A step of head of all designers, few palate cleansers are as refreshing as plain ol’ H2O, so perhaps that’s what legendary designer Vivienne Westwood had in mind when she designed a limited-edition reusable bottle with SIGG for her Fashion Week guests. Unveiled at the Spring/Summer 2011 presentation of Vivienne Westwood Red Label at London Fashion Week, the bottle is the third and final design in the Westwood’s SIGG series.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD x YOOX

The Autumn/Winter 2011 range carries 14 different styles of bags and accessories, for men and women. By working with the United Nations International Trade Centre, Westwood and Yoox are creating dignified, sustainable employment while minimizing their ecological impact. “It gives people control over the lives,” Westwood says of the project. “Charity doesn’t give them control. It’s the opposite; it makes them dependent.”

“I try to use my voice to tell people of the danger of climate change, we are an endangered species. Within one generation, Los Angeles will be uninhabitable if people don’t do something about it. The world is going to get smaller and be uninhabitable and impossible to live in."
“The most important thing is for people to inform themselves, because when you inform yourself your behavior changes. All we’ve got is public opinion to help to do something about this. I just try to wear lots of slogans and open my mouth whenever I can.”

—Designer Vivienne Westwood, speaking to FOX411 at the opening of her U.S. flagship store

As a climate-change campaigner, Westwood believes in creating options that don’t exploit the environment. “It’s quite incredible to think we might save the world through fashion,” she adds.

“Charity doesn’t give them control. It’s the opposite; it makes them dependent.”

Barney's Has Gone Gaga!

The luxury retailer, Barney's New York, in the NYC just opened their Lady Gaga themed Christmas shop, "Gaga's Workshop."  Lady Gaga in collaboration with fashion director Nicola Formichetti and Barney's creative director, Dennis Freedman, created a collection of window displays and a "Santa's Workshop" inspired store on the fifth floor of Barney's.

One of the Gaga inspired window displays is a bedroom made entirely of hair (as seen above).  The 5,500 square foot shop is no less creative and whimsical.  Many of those who have visited the shop since it's opening this past Monday describe it as Willy Wonka crossed with Tim Burton and Santa Claus.  The shop features a giant Lady Gaga spider and a statue of her; a giant replica of the shop's logo.

Gaga's workshop is attracting fans, celebrities, and tourist alike.  As it is Barney's, many of the gifts and items are priced quite high, but there are many affordable gifts and souvenirs to buy for any Lady Gaga fans or visitors this holiday.  In addition, 25% of the proceeds are going to her new foundation, The Born This Way Foundation, started by Gaga and her mother to fight bullying and promote bravery and acceptance towards today's youth. Barney's has made an extensive effort in promoting the opening of Gaga's Workshop by having their very own Gaga themed taxi cab and inflatable balloons stationed around the city.

Here's some items off the Barney's website that you can buy. (I apologize for the small image size!)  To see more click this--->link!

Grazia Daily: Your New Daily Fashion Fix!

Recently I’ve been introduced to the UK weekly fashion magazine, Grazia.  Grazia originates from Italy, as it means grace in Italian.  There are various international versions, including the UK version, which is the only one in English.

What is very unique about Grazia UK is that they have a website, Grazia Daily (http://www.graziadaily.co.uk/) where they share fashion industry and beauty news, as well as style tips and even a blogger type "Style Hunter" section of street fashion.  I think it is a great fashion resource for women as there's no weekly high fashion magazine in the US.  After perusing the website you may be tempted to subscribe to all that is Grazia, but beware it comes at a high price--£140 for year subscription to the US, which is currently about $224. Below are some article that are currently on their site that you might find interesting.

Current Style Hunter Feature: Looks from Ukraine Fashion Week and more.

Manolo Blahnik's New Eco Shoes: New line of shoes made of Tilapia skin, raffia, and cork
                                    Manolo Blahnik Patmos shoes
Madonna's New Clothing Line: After the success of her Material Girl line, Madonna is set to launch an adult fast fashion line.  See Grazia's "fash-pectations" of what the new line could include.
Madonna wearing Vionnet on the red carpet in Venice
Beauty: Lindsay Lohan Back In Jail (Not For That Blusher): What was she thinking? She looks like she's dead or ready for a Halloween party!
